How to choose an e-bike
Think about how far and where you ride. For the city, a 250 W motor and 50–80 km range are enough; for longer tours and hilly terrain choose a bigger battery and a torque sensor that gives natural, smooth assistance.
Key specifications
- Motor position: a mid-drive motor gives the best balance and climbing, a hub motor is simpler and more affordable.
- Battery capacity (Wh) and range: real range depends on assist level, rider weight and terrain.
- Hydraulic disc brakes stop a heavier bike reliably.
- Bike weight: important if you carry it up stairs.
Rules in Estonia
An e-bike with a motor up to 250 W whose assistance cuts out at 25 km/h is treated as a bicycle. You can ride it on cycle paths without a licence or registration.
